Tiny Town
These drawings and paintings were from a larger ongoing body of work called “Tiny Town”. I derived my source images from the internet and in the case of the drawings, from small toys set up as still lives. I searched the web, collecting images with the intention of combining them into somewhat believable pictorial spaces. I had been cultivating an intuitive approach to the way that certain images are combined and I used my day-to-day experience as a guide. For instance, I may have had a disturbing encounter with someone during the day. As I pondered the images that I had collected, a particular combination may have begun to feel like the disturbing experience that I had earlier. In this way the work become a representation of my quotidian experience – although the final paintings or drawings don’t actually resemble anything or anyone I know.
